A Better Resolve
How many times have we told ourselves, “Next time will be different”? We resolve to stay committed, avoid old mistakes, and stand firm when life gets hard. Yet perseverance is often where we struggle most.
Hebrews 10 speaks directly into that tension. It calls believers to perseverance, commitment, and unwavering faith.
Confidence in the Presence of God
Hebrews 10 reminds us that because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we now have confidence to enter God’s presence. The curtain separating humanity from God was torn, symbolizing full access to the Father through Christ.
Because of Jesus, we can approach God with confidence.
Confidence does not mean ignoring hardship; it means believing difficulty is not the end of the story. Spiritually, we live confidently because our relationship with God is secure in Christ’s finished work.
The Three Responses of Faith
Hebrews 10 gives three clear responses:
Draw Near to God
The way has been opened, but we must choose to walk in it through prayer, worship, Scripture, and relationship with Him.
Hold Unswervingly to Hope
Our hope cannot rest in comfort, success, or control. It must remain rooted in Christ alone.
Encourage One Another
Faith was never meant to be lived alone. We need community to encourage, support, and strengthen one another in the midst of struggle and weariness.
The Seriousness of Drifting Away
Hebrews also gives a sober warning about deliberately rejecting God’s grace. Our choices matter deeply. There are ultimately two paths: surrender to God or face separation from Him.
Yet even God’s judgment is rooted in His goodness and love. Grace does not remove the call to obedience, devotion, and transformation.
Remembering Through the Struggle
The writer calls believers to remember earlier seasons of faith when they endured suffering and hardship because they trusted God’s promises.
Perseverance is not easy, but faithfulness to Jesus is never wasted.
One of the ways God strengthens perseverance is through testimony. Hearing stories of transformation reminds us of the moments God met us in our own struggles and carried us forward.
We Are Not Among Those Who Shrink Back
Hebrews 10 closes with this powerful declaration:
“But we are not those who shrink back and are destroyed, but those who have faith and preserve their souls.”
Like David facing Goliath, our confidence is not in ourselves but in the God who stands with us.
Our faith rests on the complete sacrifice of Jesus. Because of Him:
- We draw near to God
- We hold firmly to hope
- We encourage one another
- We persevere through suffering
A Better Resolve
Hebrews 10 offers believers a better resolve — not stronger willpower, but a deeper foundation in Christ.
Our strength comes from remaining grounded in Jesus and connected to others walking the same journey. Our confidence is rooted in:
- The love of the Father
- The nearness of Jesus
- The presence of the Holy Spirit
Because of this, we have every reason to persevere.
So let us draw near to God, place our hope fully in Him, encourage one another, and stand firm in faith, confident that the One who called us is faithful.
